David B. Chamberlin was born in 1940 in Pennsylvania, United States. His primary profession was of an English professor in Lancaster PA, but he also regularly visited his father's estate in Antigua from 1975 to 2000.
In Antigua he learned to play Warri (the Antiguan word for Oware). He then sought out and paid various Warri masters to teach him greater skills. He codified and self-published a book on the subject in 1984.
Chamberlin is currently retired and living in San Diego CA
